Justin R. Levy: When You Hit the Wall

    I can completely relate to hitting a wall. When you're stressed or have pushed your limits, even the smallest tasks seem like they take all your effort. Your suggestions for breaking down your goals into smaller steps, and crossing off the little items on your list are great. I implement these a lot when we are going through a crunch time. I just wish I was at my desk long enough to be able to play music!

    Thanks Justin for these tips-- they were super helpful!!! I've found myself feeling unproductive and when this happens, I switch gears to something else. This could be going from my blog to writing my book, to organizing something in the community, but often my work is confined by inbound requests, i.e. emails, calls, business inquiries, etc. I especially, liked #5. My preference, the local Barnes & Nobles to read literature outside my specialty. Thanks for blogging! -David

    For me it's the music dude! It's so definitely the music. Lately it's been listening to tunes like Cirque du Soleil. Ever since I was little, I'd study (read a book, write a paper, etc.) while the music was blaring. My parents didn't like it. They couldn't understand how I could possibly be productive with music. Heck, sometimes I don't get it either. But something about it definitely relaxes me and moves me!

    As for those other moments where I just freeze up, and it's happened once in a while, well, I just find that it's time to get some fresh air. Maybe hit the rosebowl for a 3 mile run or hit the gym and shoot some hoops. Something that gets me out there and moving around. Exercise, like the music, gets me in the zone somehow. It's gets me moving and it gets me thinking.

    So to stay productive, it's basically, a set of easy tunes and then scheduling some time for physical activity. A good mix of those, and I'm set to be productive!

    Great tips and definitely true. Funny how we spend so much of our time "plugged in" to so many different things that eventually we need a break. Makes you think...maybe humans aren't supposed to multi-task quite this much!?!

    Yeah, breaks are definitely necessary from time-to-time. I think with the
    right balance, multi-tasking is great. But, it's that balance that gets
    thrown out of whack so often and needs to be realigned.
